Prevalence of Gastro-intestinal Helminthiasis in Cattle of Madi Valley, Chitwan

Cattle is one of the leading species domestic livestock in Nepal. The helminthic diseases are common with varied occurrence. This study was carried out to find prevalence and risk factor associated gastro-intestinal helminth parasites 304 fecal samples cattle Madi Valley, Chitwan, Rectal sample were collected zip lock plastic bag containing 10% formalin preserved refrigerator before examination. Sedimentation floatation techniques used for detection parasites. overall found be 51.32%. parasitic infection trematode 39%, cestode 13% nematode 48%. In group, Fasciola sp. 4.61%, Paramphistomum 15.13%, Dicrocoelium 1.64%, Schistosoma 0.66% Bilharzia 0.99% prevalent. Among cestode, only Moniezia observed rate 7.89%. Nematode included Strongyloides 3.95%, Trichostrongylus 7.24%, Toxocara Oesophagostomum 1.97%, Haemonchus 4.28%, Cooperia Bunostomum sp 0.66%, Nematodirus others 3.29%. Mixed infections 17% positive samples. Sex age group showed statistically significant difference. Male have higher than that female (P<0.05). Potential like farmer’s water source, body condition score, grazing rearing system, purpose animal last date drenching association on parasite. valley, Chitwan had shown wide range helminthiasis cattle.
